220 Years (二百二年, Ni Hyaku Ni-nen) is the seventy-ninth chapter of Haruko Ichikawa's manga Land of the Lustrous.

Summary[]

220 years have passed. Yellow Diamond approaches a ledge with a calm smile on their face before they step off of it and land, shattering in the process, in the Atrium where a Lunarian is present. Yellow Diamond is brought to a infirmary where they are reassembled and Amethyst 84 is called. Cairngorm, Amethyst, and Diamond all sit by Yellow Diamond's bedside as they wake up, the three Gems revealing that this is the first time Yellow has done this and that their mental state is very fragile at the moment. Yellow seems to be suffering from delusions that they are a Lunarian. The topic quickly changes into the territory of whether or not Gems could become Lunarians, the three Gems expressing wanting to become Lunarians by possibly extracting their souls. Barbata cuts them off, commenting how troubling the conversation is. Amethyst and Diamond convince Cairngorm to speak to Aechmea to see if it's possible.

Cairngorm plays a game with Aechmea, the game and objective unknown but Aechmea eventually skews the game in order for the two of them to reach a tie with how many each has won. Cairngorm uses this to turn the conversation into the subject the Gems spoke about earlier and asks for Aechmea's permission to allow the research to happen. Aechmea eventually agrees after Cairngorm comments on how cold and heavy their own body is and wishes to become like Aechmea.

Back on Earth Sensei is seen looking out at the snow, indicating that it is winter. Euclase asks him to pray, which he declines, before Euclase is called off by Red Beryl after mentioning that the Gems will go into hibernation now. Night comes and Sensei is seen assembling Phos, commenting how it took 220 years for the Gems to forget about Phos and that it took a while to find enough pieces of Phos to put together. Phos reawakens and immediately pounces at Sensei, holding his hands together in a praying motion, begging him to pray, no longer for the lunarians but for them instead, as they no longer have the will to go on.
